Zero Zero

Posted by Bret Lee |

Zero Zero just opened a few days ago but they are off and running.  SF has a serious new competitor in the Napoletana pizza race.  I was already a fan of Bruce Hill, executive chef and partner at Bix and of course Pizzeria Picco in Larkspur which is one of my top bay area thin crust pizzas, and if they did nothing but bring that pie a lot closer to me  (i work blocks away from the old Azie spot next to Lulu where "00" is located) I would have been quite happy.  And they did and I love it but Zero Zero has so much more.  6 tasty wines on tap.  Delicious soft serve ice cream that I have to admit I was a little suspicious of but absolutely loved my vanilla with real vanilla, pine nut brittle, and olive oil and salt topping creation.  And a tasteful understated interior design that feels quite nice yet not at all pretentious, over the top, or "theme-y."  The staff and service were great on only their 2nd day open -- they trained for a week to make sure things ran smoothly.  My only complaint is that there are no dessert wines by the glass.

Zero Zero is named for the Tipo "00" flour that, along with the water, is the real secret ingredient behind a  Neapolitan pizza.

Earthquake Zin

Posted by Bret Lee |

I had this fantastic Zin from Lodi Vineyards at my dad's 74th birthday.  Recommended to him by friends.  You may know vinters Michael & David Philips from their 7 Deadly Zins wines.  Should be available at your local BevMo for about $20.  Going to have to try more wines from Lodi...
